the way to our hearts...

is through our stomachs! Corny, maybe. True, yes. Jordan and I LOVE food, which may be a little surprising if you look at our deceivingly small frames. I guess we have high metabolisms, but we just love food. We love new recipes and new restaurants. Jordan is more of the cook, but I like to think I have a very important role in the cooking process as his affirmer...for example, "I think adding that spice is an excellent idea" or constantly telling him it looks good.

Ever since moving to "the city," we have enjoyed eating out every now and then. With our stage in life, and well, just our personalities, we are/have to be penny pincers. We watch where every dollar goes, but we still get to enjoy a meal out every so often. We have eaten at several wonderful places since living here. We try to keep it semi-local, avoiding big chains. This may not be an exhaustive list of where all we have eaten, because sometimes I just forget, but here goes.

Tazki's. The restaurant I was most excited about being close to when we moved to Birmingham. Now Tuscaloosa has one. Of course they got one as soon as I moved. I enjoyed a delicious lunch last weekend with one of my best gals Lynnlee when she came down for an afternoon visit.
I first fell in love with Shipley's Do-nuts Christmas 2006 while in Houston. It is so much fun to have one here. We've enjoyed these treats twice since living here.
Jordan and I LOVE barbecue, which will be evident if you continue to read this post. Jordan searched for the best barbecue places in the Birmingham area, and this was by far the most talked about. We got to enjoy this hole-in-the-wall one weekend when my parents and sister visited.
This was another one of those restaurants Jordan found when trying to find the best restaurants in the Birmingham area. Great lunch place. Hamburger, drink, and chips for $5. For my hometown friends, it reminded me a lot of Charley Joseph's in LaGrange.
I love pasta. I know it's not good for me, but I can't help it. We ate at this place with our Community Group (more hip term for Sunday School). I really enjoyed it. Jordan, not so much.
My birthday dinner with the parents. Just good, not fancy, pizza.
Jordan grew up eating at this barbecue joint on the drive from Tuscaloosa to Auburn. My parents treated us one weekend they were here. We found coupons, of course.
Grew up going here. I've been twice since living here. It doesn't get much better than this.
My birthday dinner with Jordan and Brad. Like the logo says, it's Mongolian Stir Fry. You get a bowl and get to pick your meat, veggies, spices, and sauces. They then cook it for you on an enormous wok.
Once again, Jordan and I had been here before, but it still remains one of our favorites. It's a steak house whose steak is to DIE for. Steak is hands down my favorite food. If you share my love, you have GOT to go here!!
Only picture I could find. Edgewood Creamery in Homewood. Cute little ice cream shoppe, and oh so delicious.
We actually went to Dave's the weekend we moved into our apartment, while we were still between Tuscaloosa and Birmingham. We went with a lot of friends. Super cool atmosphere and pretty good pizza.
We actually just went to Davenport's last night with Jordan's family. My close friend Emily had been telling me to go forever. Such a great family atmosphere, and the pizza is good, too!
We went to Baha Burger the first time for Jordan's birthday celebration with his family. You have a build-your-own-burger option where you choose everything you want. We went for the second time yesterday when some friends were in town.

There ya have it. As I was making the list I thought of other places we had been to. Yuki's Hibachi Style Japanese--very good, but Hokkaido will always hold a special place in my heart, may it rest in peace. We've also tried a few Mexican places along the way and the occasional Chick-fil-A or Papa John's. We've really enjoyed having a lot of new places right at our fingertips.
