"Oh Lord Jesus, save me!"

The title of this blog has to be one of my favorite things spoken by a child ever. Last spring, during my internship in 1st grade, we took the kids to the McWane Center in Birmingham. While we were there, we saw an IMAX movie on the life cycle of a caterpillar/butterfly. Needless to say, the 6 and 7 year olds were a little nervous because they thought the movie would be all around them and would come towards them, as if it was real life. We had tears leading up to the movie because several were scared. They ended up loving it. There was a certain little boy sitting beside me that often got in trouble but had the biggest and most fun personality. At a point in the movie, the caterpillar was being attacked by some sort of insect, and in the quietness and stillness of the theater, he raised his hands and yelled, "Oh Lord Jesus, save me!"

Another one of my favorite quotes from a kid...you know, they do say "kids say the darndest things," came from one of my campers when I was at Marannook summer after my freshman year. I had taken one of my young girls (just completed 1st grade) to the restroom. As she was sitting on the potty, tending to her business, she got in a deep conversation with me, which she concluded with, "Miss Carlin, you know what? I just love God, A LOT...He's just so awesome!"

Oh to see life through the eyes of a child! Today, as I was subbing for a kindergarten class, I got so much pleasure out of simply watching them watch a movie. They were a part of the movie the entire time. Mouths opened in concentration. Cheers when the characters did something praiseworthy. And "oh mys" when unexpected things happened. I hope we all look at life with such excitement as a child.

You are right, it is amazing to see life through the eyes of a child. I try to do it as much as I can.
