Friday night, Jordan and I started the task of registering. We were having very different views on everyday dishes. Jordan wanted what looks to be very substantial and hard-to-break dishes that do not have that dainty touch that I love so much. He liked black; I liked white. However, I feel we have settled on a set of Kate Spade dishes that have white and black and are classy and dainty. We ate dinner at one of our favorite places in Birmingham, the Village Tavern, then started registering at Bed, Bath, and Beyond. My oh-so-sweet and oh-so-patient hubby to be quietly reassured me several times during this seemingly daunting task that it was supposed to be fun. We were both worn slap out at the end of the night but were happy with our decisions so far.
Tuscaloosa was predicted to have snow starting Sunday afternoon. The city schools (aka Jordan's employer) had only started school on Thursday. Sunday afternoon, Jordan constantly checked to see if Tuscaloosa City Schools would be canceled on Monday, hoping they would not. I, being the laid back lazy bum that I am, would have loved to learn that I would not have the be at work the next. Jordan, not so much. School was in fact canceled on Monday and then again on Tuesday. I loved the idea of spending 1 and then 2 relaxing snow days with Jordan.
Some not-so-big game happened last night, and I will admit it, I was not too happy with the outcome. I may have pouted for a little bit and listed all the reasons why it should not have ended that way. I had to see the silver lining--at least I'm not in high school anymore. Why? Auburn won 4 straight Iron Bowls. I grew up maybe 20 minutes from Auburn, therefore almost everyone's allegiance was to the orange and blue. Not mine, however. T-shirts were not allowed on weekdays, definitely not Mardi Gras beads or Tigers' Tails, but that dreadful, gloomy Monday every November, those things were allowed. People showed up decked out in their Auburn get-up. Miserable.
Enjoy it, Auburn. Please not to the point of making us Alabama people not enjoy getting on Facebook or Twitter, but enjoy it. It's fun. It's fun to be a part of, especially when you are a student. For this year, the state will be painted orange and blue. Hey, what other state boasts 2 National Championships in 2 years, as well as 2 Heisman winners? Keep it classy and represent us well, AU. Roll Tide.
