fellowship

With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God's likeness. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be. Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring? My brothers, can a fig tree bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water.James 3:9-12

This semester I have been so blessed with a group of girls that meet together every Tuesday night to gather around the Word and spur one another on. A friend I have known since freshman year brought the idea up to me this summer of a senior and graduate student Bible study. I have not been in a Bible Study since my freshman year in which I was not the "leader." I have never been more challenged spiritually than the way I am challenged each and every week by this group of girls and the book of James that we have been studying this semester. The Lord has used this study to continue to refine me and to continue in His sanctification of me.

As I mentioned before, we have been going through the book of James. What a practical and challenging book! I cannot count on both hands how many times I have studied this book or heard messages or lessons based upon it. However, there are so many gems of information that have convicted me during this study. The way I have been convicted the most from this book has been through the verses at the top of this post.

With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God's likeness. If you've known me longer than 5 seconds, you know I LOVE to talk. I'll talk about anything and everything and can be guilty of not making any sense at times. I talk without thinking. I let things roll off of my tongue without giving them a second thought.

I have been challenged to be more intentional with my speech. To be encouraging and not make fun of others who have been made in God's likeness. If that's not convicting, I don't know what is. I have also been convicted of complaining, especially through the medium of social networking.

I am a work in process. We're all in process. Thanks, girls for reminding me of this!
