Yes, I realize we are in the 5th week of school already, but I want to acknowledge the fact that I LOVE the beginning of the school year. I always have. There's so much newness and so much excitement that comes with school beginning. Maybe this will make me a good teacher or comes in handy because I will be a teacher...who knows? Why, you ask me, do I love a new school year?
1. Everything is new. New clothes (or at least before I came to college). I remember being so excited every year to show off my new threads on the first day of school. My high school friends would be very proud of me...on my first day of school this year, I wore athletic shorts, and t-shirt, and chacos. Every other week I have worn normal clothes. I realized that t-shirts and running shorts were the norm in undergrad. In my graduate level classes on my first day, I stood out like a sore thumb.
2. In addition to new clothes, new school supplies. I can smell the smell just sitting here in the library. My family would always make a trip to Columbus to visit Office Depot before the beginning of each school year. After cleaning out old binders last spring, I realized I never need a new binder and have plenty of loose-leaf paper for an entire school. I also had not opened my new box of pencils from last year.
3. Excitement. When i think of the new school year, I think about our first football game each year in high school. New crushes. New couples. As silly as that seems, when I think about starting school in the present and in the past, I just get really excited and remember the excitement I had.
4. Since being in college, I love the new school year because I love new faces. I get so excited to see and meet new freshmen. I love their excitement and join in it as I remember how excited I was to start college.
5. Alabama football. This goes without explanation, I believe.
Hope everyone is having a fantastic school year so far! For those of you no longer in school, I hope you're excited nonetheless.
