The title of this post may seem puzzling at first. Let me take you back four years, almost to this day...
I walked into a house with some friends just two days after I moved into my dorm my freshman year, not too sure who I'd meet or if I'd even fit in. The first words I heard as I walked in came from a boy with buzzed dark hair and glasses, who was probably taunting someone over video games was, "In the streets I'm a legend, in my hood I'm a star."
This boy quickly became a close friend of mine, not more than that. I had so much fun with him, and he kept me constantly laughing whether by calling a girl on a bike Ping Pong or by rolling down a window in a friend's car and saying, "What up, guh?" He had an impression on me from the first day.
As life has it, I took a different path before being led back to him (as cheesy as that sounds). After Christmas break, I noticed our relationship changing. This guy actually chose to watch American Idol 2 times (and sometimes 3 times) a week with my close friend and me. Unbeknown to me that he didn't have class at this time, he would walk up from his dorm every Friday morning to Gordon Palmer to talk to me.
One particular Friday, during our normal chat session in good ole GP, Jordan inquired about what my plans were for that evening. It was completely normal because we hung out all the time. However, that night was different. We went to dinner just the two of us and watched tv just the two of us. As he drove me home that night, he asked if "maybe" I would be interested in going on a date sometime. I gave him a really roundabout answer to which I'm pretty sure he replied, "I'm not asking you to marry me, I'm just asking for one date."
I went on one date, one date became two, and the rest is history...
Jordan has been ready to get married for some time now. It's been me that's been dragging my heels because of not feeling it's the right time. This summer, I felt pretty ready and a few weeks ago gave him the go ahead. He went ring shopping, talked to my dad, and then found out today the ring was in. He came to my house as soon as he got the ring, and out of excitement, through all pre-existing plans of how to propose out the window.
When he walked into my house, I realized he hugged me longer than normal. I figured he had a rough day at school. He asked for a glass of water, so we walked to the kitchen to get some water. We had a discussion about how the water tasted funny, then he told me he had something for me. I did not really suspect anything, although I've been looking at his pockets for evidence of a ring box for a couple of weeks now. He got out a cardboard jewelry box with a "Fincher and Ozment" ribbon on it. I automatically think, "I don't think he'd give me a ring this way and it better not be another piece of jewelry! My next piece of jewelry needs to be a ring!" I quickly open it to find absolutely nothing in the box. I fuss at Jordan and so he then asks if I want the real thing. I still think he is joking because he has faked proposed before (didn't go through the whole process just the leading up to it). I look down, he's on one knee with a ring box opened with a perfect ring with a solitaire diamond on it! Before he can get out, "Will you marry me?", I grab the ring and put it on my own finger. I stared at it for a minute or so and finally answered, "Yes!"
It still doesn't seem real. Maybe it'll sink in soon, but I'm so thankful for all the congratulations we've received! We are so blessed!
